UNSW CRICKET CLUB

The University of New South Wales Cricket Club (UNSWCC) has a proud history stretching back into the 1950s and the foundation of the university itself.

The Cricket Club began its traditions in the Municipal and Shires competition, and by the late 1960s and early 1970s was dominating so profoundly in all grades that it was elevated to the Sydney Grade competition proper in 1973-74.

Within four seasons of this elevation, the distinctive Bumble Bee Cap had secured the Poidevin-Gray Shield and the 1st Grade Premiership. Within another two seasons the ultimate trophy, the Club Championship, had been added to the silverware cabinet and immediately following that, another 1st Grade title.

The UNSW Cricket Club has produced three Australian players as well as numerous other representative players in our short history, such as: Geoff 'Henry' Lawson, Michael Slater and most recently Dan Christian.

Recently, our on-field performances have been meeting our high expectations with 1st Grade crowned Limited Overs Champions in 2005 and all grades are well in the hunt for finals action this season.

However, regardless of results on the field, facets of the "Wales" never change: great spirit, humour and enthusiasm. The ability to combine a competitive spirit with one that is compatible with enjoyment and true sportsmanship is encouraged and cultivated at the UNSWCC.
