ROUND 12 RESULTS
Persistant rain across Sydney ensured no play was possible in any grade on Day 2 resulting in 7 draws. In Day 1 action Eric Zehner (1's), Tim Lang (1's), Ryan Medley (2's), Robbie Dooley (3's) and Sean Gardner (4's) all took 4-fa's as UNSW bowled in the top 4 grades. Best performers with the bat were the UNSW Gold duo of Aaron Ford (81) and Nathan McCoy (71).
1ST GRADE
New ball pairing Eric "Zoom Zoom" Zehner and Skipper Tim Lang starred with the ball as Mosman faught back from being 5/97 to post a respectable 271 at the VG. Keeper David Dawson took 5 catches to take his season tally to 28 which puts him on top of the Sydney 1st Grade dismissals table. UNSW was 0/15 in reply at stumps.
Mosman 271 (E Zehner 4/53 T Lang 4/69) drew UNSW 0/15 at Village Green
2ND GRADE
2's had a good day at Allan Border Oval as they bowled out the locals for 192 with leg spinner Ryan Medley and the evergreen Danny Bhandari among the wickets. In reply The Bees were 2/45 at stumps with Charlie Wakim on 22*.
Mosman 192 (R Medley 4/42 D Bhandari 2/25) drew UNSW 2/45 at Allan Border
3RD GRADE
Babcock's XI had a great day at DP North rolling Mosman for 233 with Hooley Dooley's 4/69 the pick of the figures. Jwalit Shah's wicket taking antics continued in earnest with the offie picking up another 3-fa. In reply UNSW was 1/24 at stumps.
Mosman 233 (R Dooley 4/69 J Shah 3/44) drew UNSW 1/24 at DP North
4TH GRADE
4th Grade were without a few of their bigger stars but the good performances continued with Sean Gardner the pick of the figures with the ball. On a sluggish outfield 215 was competetive enough but The Bees never got the chance to chase it down despite some unorthodox attempts to get the pitch ready for play at Rawson on Day 2.
Mosman 215 (S Gardner 4/36) drew UNSW 0/8 at Rawson
5TH GRADE
UNSW batted first at DP South and made a sub par 171 with James Hamilton and Ryan Wijayaratne the main contributors. In reply Mosman made it to 2/66 at stumps with Ryan Wijayaratne capping off a solid day by taking the two wickets to fall.
UNSW 171 (J Hamilton 47 R Wijayaratne 35) drew Mosman 2/66 (R Wijayaratne 2/28) at DP South
UNSW GOLD
UNSW Gold had a great day 1 out at Whalan posting 6/277 with Aaron Ford and Nathan McCoy leading the way.
UNSW 6/277 (A Ford 81 N McCoy 77) drew Blacktown at Whalan 2
UNSW BLACK
UNSW Black won the toss and batted first. With the pitch playing unpredictably from the outset players struggled to get any momentum. Notable contributions from Tom Jagot (56) and Victor Jauregui (40) as well as some quick runs from Chaanuk De Silva (18) got us to a total of 147. We would need to bowl well to defend this modest total. However, the match was abandoned on Day 2 due to rain.

PG's LOSE TO FINISH SEASON
The PG Bees have finished what turned out to be a disappointing year with a hard fought two wicket loss against Campbelltown at the VG. Winning the toss and batting first UNSW made 170 all out with Blake Hutchison (52) and Skipper Ben Wakim (51) the only batsmen to get past 13.The effort with the ball was much better though with Campbelltown only passing the score 8 down. Leg spinner Ryan Medley snared 3/35 off his 10.
The team finished the season in 19th spot.

DAN CARVES UP WARRIORS, ALMOST SMASHES RECORD
Dan Christian has starred in SA's crushing 6 wicket win over WA at the Adelaide Oval in a Ford Ranger Cup clash. Dan took 4/32 with the ball and then backed that up with a wild swinging 48* off just 21 balls to help the Redbacks pick up a bonus point. Dan's lusty innings left him just 2 runs short of equalling David Hookes' long standing domestic 50 over fastest 50 record. Hookes scored a 50 off 21 balls back in 1990-91. ROUND 11 RESULTS
Another good round for UNSW with 1's, 3's and 4's all continuing their winning ways allowing for the semi-final calculators to be dusted off. With 4 rounds to go 1's are now in 8th spot while 3's are 12th and 4's 10th. 2's would be a mathematical hope in 14th spot while 5's would need a lot of luck to figure from 18th. Both Metro Cup sides went down on the weekend but UNSW Gold are still right in it in 5th place. UNSW Black need the same calculator as 5th grade. In actual Round 11 action Jordan Roche scored his maiden ton for the Club in 3's allowing Club President Andrew Jones the opportunity to again toll the ton-o-meter's bells. Other big scores over the weekend came from David Dawson (96 in 1's) and Sam Crichton (84 in 4's). With the ball the best figures of the weekend were returned by Jwalit Shah in 3's who took 4/20.
1ST GRADE
Having won the toss, Beau Casson looked to take advantage of early moisture in the deck and put the Students in. Creed and Dean however looked untroubled against the new ball, scoring at 4 an over, until the first change Soper tempted Creed wide outside off to be well caught by Casson in the gully. Dawson and Dean then stepped it up a notch, Dean driving well and Dawson cutting and pulling on a fast outfield. Dean mistimed a drive over the top, skying one, out for 43 off 44. Gowland didn’t waste time, running hard and scoring quickly, 27 off 29, before a skied pull was well caught in the deep, 3-134 in the 27th. Henry and Dawson then struggled against some tight bowling from Richtor and Kennedy. Lang came in with a view to lift the run rate once Henry fell, 4-172, only to be superbly caught one handed in the deep on the run by Richtor off a long hop from McDonald, 5-190. Hutchison and Dawson stepped things up a notch, and Dawson fell agonisingly close to his ton, skying a drive off Connell 96 off 105, 5 boundaries and 4 sixes including one onto the railway tracks, a great knock from a man struggling with the flu. Wickets then fell quickly as the lower order pushed for runs in the remaining overs, the Students finishing on 9-265 with Hutchison’s 32 off 21 really aiding the cause. The Students’ score could have been higher but for an excellent fielding effort by Gordon.
The Gordon innings began poorly, Alex Day rocked their foundation in his 1st over – enticing Beverley outside off, the simple catch taken by Dawson. Lang continued the tremor, Eccles well caught down leg, again by Dawson, and when Packman skied a pull shot in Day’s 3rd over, the Gordon innings had a distinct Haitian look about it. Colley and Bombas slowly rebuilt the innings, Colley pulling anything too short and running well. Dean and Small were the change bowlers, bowling well but lacked consistency which kept Gordon in the hunt. In the end it was Dean’s fielding that brought Colley’s flawless innings undone in the unluckiest way, 1 short of his half century – Bombas smashing a drive only for Dean to get a touch before it cannoned into the stumps with Colley a stride out of the crease. Casson tried to set himself for the match saving innings, only to get caught pulling into the deep off Henry from the first big shot he played. Dean then ensured a student victory when he picked up a gem of a return catch off another Bombas drive. Dean then quickly mopped up the tail bowling at the stumps to finish with 3-52 but it really was his two pieces of fielding to get Colley and Bombas that ensured the Students got their bonus point win.

The web report cone of silence remains well and truly lowered over the head of Skipper Stuart McKay however I can report 2's went down by 39 runs in a high scoring affair at the VG. Batting first Gordon complied a very competitive 9/317 off their 50 overs. Most bowlers suffered punishment but Spider Webb mixed 4 wickets into his spell of 4/47 off 6.
In reply chasing an imposing total the lads dug in to get to 8/278 off their 50. Danny Bhandari top scoring with 58* with other contributions coming from Charlie Wakim (56), Ben Wakim (49) and Ryan Medley (45).

Skipper Bowcock may be sleeping off some sort of Australia Day hangover so no report received from him either. 3's had a cracking win though. Batting first UNSW posted 6/249 with the highlight being Jordan Roche's 103*. Hugh Campbell made 49.
What looks like an inspired bowling performance saw the Bees roll Gordon for 183 in the 44th over. Jwalit Shah continued his great form of late with 4/20 and Vinnie Mauric looks to have produced one of his trademark busy spells to take 4/44. 3's are on a roll.

No word from Tal either! Big Day Out maybe? The UNSW Dream Team racked up a big 90 run win. Batting first Uni was helped by some brutal knocks from Sam Crichton (84 off 60) and Mark Hansen (63 off 37) and the more measured Dave Carson (61 off 71) as they posted a very tidy 8/304.
With the ball 6 different bowlers took wickets with Crichto snaring 3/55 off his 10, Alex Charlwood taking 2/29 off 7 and Tom Atallah 1/27 off 10.
The Dream Team is gathering momentum.

Hot weather, a flat track and a sandpaper outfield. Some thought losing the toss wasn't such a bad thing because we would be fielding in the morning and the sun would only get hotter as the day went on. Good theory, but not when you bowl crap and don't take your opportunities. Their openers pumped the bad balls and ran well to turn the good ones into singles and twos. The spinners actually did well to slow the scoring rate in the middle overs, but that was undone in the dying stages when some shite seam bowling was sent over the fence. The only highlight was watching the Wests supporters deflate when their young opener was clean bowled for 99.
When the Uni innings began, Bikram and Pete Lazarus were surprisingly scoring 7 per over easily, and without really ever going aerial. Bikram went for a slashing 23 off 19, which brought Gihan to the crease in his bumble bee comeback. While the "Original Wij" timed some great drives, Pete looked like emulating his namesake and bringing UNSW back into the match. At 1 for 140 off 22 and a 40 degree sun overhead we were cruising, until the hurricane blew through Blick and levelled the middle order. We lost 7 for 35 (including 5 for 15) in the storm conditions, and with it the chance of finishing a great chase. Bala and Garlo sent a few to the fence to clear 200, but much too little, too late.
Rav summed it up with his comment after being caught + bowled for 0. "I f***ing hate cricket today..."

Overall it was a tough day of cricket for the UNSW boys with only 10 players available to play. After winning the toss Maurice Ford (20) and Marcus Atallah (21) established a good opening partnership. Gavin Ho continued on in an attacking fashion, scoring 29. Matt Mifsud (33) and Adam Gulden (15) batted well together but unfortunately we could only make a total of 174.
RP hardly looked troubled in their run chase but wickets from Mifsud (3/25) and Maurice Ford (1/11) gave us a sniff of an unlikely victory. Unfortunately the task proved to be too difficult. Despite the loss, all players should be congratulated on their commitment with a special mention to Marcus’ dad who helped out in the field.

There was plenty of UNSW representation at the T20 Big Bash final last Saturday night with Dan Christian and Tom Cooper playing for the losing Redbacks side. Despite the loss the fellas will head off to India later in the year for the Champions League tournament. Dan bounced back quickly from the disappointment though to help guide SA to a Ford Ranger Cup win on Australia Day against NSW by scoring 90*.UNSW also had three representatives in the NSW Breakers side that lost their T20 final in the early game with Alex Blackwell, Lisa Sthalekar and Kate Blackwell flying the University flag.

BABY BEES FINISH ON A HIGH
UNSW's Green Shield side finished on a high in Round 7 defeating North Sydney by 8 wickets at the Village Green. North Sydney batted first and made 7/271 off their 60 overs with Jack Erickson taking 2/52.After a string of low scores in recent games it was great to see the Baby Bees turn it on to chase down the big total for the loss of just 2 wickets. Skipper Marcus Sevior led the chase and finished with 101*. He was ably supported by Scott Murn who scored 87.

ROUND 10 RESULTS
Another great round for UNSW with 1's, 2's, 3's and 4's all winning against Sydney. It was a great round for bowlers with only the experienced 1st Grade duo of Murray Creed (75*) and David Dawson (73*) registering scores over 50. Plenty of destruction with the ball though with Eric Zehner (1's), Alex Day (2's), Rob Lawrence (2's), Luke Ford (3's) and Tom Atallah (4's) all collecting 4-fa's. Harpoon Heysen's return in 4's with 3/33 was also a highlight.
1ST GRADE
Back at the Green for the first time in 2010 and the boys didn’t disappoint with another comprehensive 9 wicket, 1 bonus point win against Sydney.
Winning the toss and fielding, it didn’t appear to be the right decision until Zoomer struck in his 4th over, Jimmy H juggling one at 2nd slip to get the opener. Next ball Zoomer crashed one into Crosthwaite’s stumps to send the former Vic keeper packing. No hat-trick but the Students had started the rot. Sparke hooked Langy early in his innings for Wilbur at fine leg to take a well judged catch, and when Wilbur had the ominous looking Brookes (37 off 41) well caught at short mid wicket by Jimmy H, 4/59, the Students looked set for an easy afternoon.
Sri Lankan international, Russel Arnold and Moore, re-built the Sydney innings slowly, with Cam and Wilbur drying up the runs. It was Wilbur again who brought them undone, first Moore bowled, then Arnold caught by Jimmy H at midwicket again. When Langy beat Etteridge’s hook with pace in the next over, the Sydney innings looked in tatters at 7/128. Two short stands in the tail were closed off by Zoomer, again with 2 wickets in two balls – LBW off a well disguised slower ball and a well caught edge by Daws down leg – and Cam getting the no 11 caught off a full bunger by Wilbur – all out 171 off 42 overs.
Creed and Dean set about chasing the target after lunch, but Dean struggled against the new ball, out for 9 bowled. Dawson and Creed the set about giving the Sydney side a master class in building an innings. Both looked for singles while waiting for the bad ball with Creed pulling anything short and Dawson cutting and driving well for boundaries. They were aided by the young Rogers bowling 4 no-balls in his first over, which in the era of free hits is costly – 24 runs coming off it!! Russell rotated his bowlers, desperately trying to get a breakthrough while stemming the run flow but no-one really tested the Uni bats. It was clear they were determined to see their task through to the end. More no-balls (12 in total), more boundaries and Muz and Daws were putting on a show. The only thing to end it was reaching the target in the 32nd over to give the boys a bonus point win and a sniff of Limited Overs finals (pending other results).
All Uni bowlers contributed with Zoomer 4-49 (including his 300th for the Club), Wilbur 3-44 and Langy 2-24 the pick. Dawson and Creed were superb with the bat and victory seemed assured very early on in their partnership. Sydney’s 12 no-balls to UNSW’s none certainly helped the Students’ cause as well.

The most enjoyable game of the season, and a great team effort!
After losing the toss and being sent in on a deck that was a little soft; Tim Elliott (42no) and Mark Hansen (37) batted superbly to steer us to a defendable total after we were in early trouble at 5/53 (21 overs). The patience shown by both batsmen on a dodgy deck was admirable. It was very pleasing to see us bat out the 50 overs.
As to be expected, the deck had considerably dried over the course of our innings and the luncheon break, and when we resumed Sydney showed their intent. It became apparent they believed a few bonus points were on offer. After 6 overs when they were 0-55, I was inclined to agree with them.
However, we did not lose faith and the introduction of Tommy Atallah (4/21) and club legend Harpoon Heyson (3/33) saw an inspired spell of bowling. Tommy bowled with good flight and soon had the batsmen in trouble. While Heyso struck in his 1st over. Once the 1st wicket fell – opener and captain Grice for 49, when the score was on 55 – the momentum changed. The wickets fell with regularity there after with some excellent catching, especially in close by David “Worm” Carson. The fielding and enthusiasm were excellent and the Sydney batsmen wilted under the pressure.
A great win, keeping us in the hunt.

All around a poor effort this week. Allow me to elaborate.
We took our first wicket in the 24th over, with 90 runs already against us, more worrying was the number of chances created up to this point could be counted on one hand. Django Reinhardt could probably count the chances with the good fingers on his left hand. The top scorer for the opposition was us. Wides alone beat their top score (37, a total of 48). Hammo (3/62), Harold Holt (3/39) and Wardy (2/37) were the main contributors to our cause.
The batting never got off the ground. Naeef cut a ball in two only to cop a howler of an LBW that had him gesturing for a referral. And then...nothing. We scored at barely a run an over for the first 15 overs. Knuckles (26) and Kinder tried to lift, but by the time they were at the crease the rate was already nudging 8 an over. TJ and Hammo (32) looked like at least salvaging some respect before they too fell and it was lights out.

UNSW won the toss and elected to bat with Choudhury and Kumar getting us off to a good attacking start. Unfortunately we were not able to capitalise on this with Victor Jauregui scoring the only notable score of 40. The lower order chipped in with some runs but it was S. Undries who we really needed to thank contributing a ridiculous 72, which is not a good reflection on the rest of our batting!
Chasing 213, Western Suburbs looked in control for most of their innings but some good bowling from Ravin (3/46) and Bala (2/36) kept us in the game. Unfortunately, some loose bowling coupled with a lot of very poor fielding allowed Western Suburbs to reach our total 7 wickets down.
